Autism Resources

The Autism assessment pathway for adults in Australia typically involves the following steps:

1

Initial
Screening

The first step in the assessment process is an initial screening. This may involve completing a self-assessment questionnaire or being interviewed by a healthcare professional to determine if ADHD is a possible diagnosis.

2

Comprehensive
Assessment

If autism is suspected, a comprehensive assessment is conducted. This typically involves a detailed clinical interview with a healthcare professional, as well as the completion of questionnaires by the individual and their family members or close associates. The assessment may also include cognitive and psychological testing to rule out other conditions that may mimic autism symptoms.

3

Diagnosis

If autism is diagnosed, the healthcare professional will work with the individual to develop a treatment plan. This may include medication, behavioral therapy, or a combination of both. The healthcare professional will also provide education and support to help the individual manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life..
